Phonological Dyslexia Assessment
The first assessment: Completion of the Screener
The screener, supplied by the Clinic – to be completed by parent in the case of students – will give an indication of whether the client may be experiencing Phonological Dyslexia.
The second assessment: Diagnostic Portfolio
The Irlen Clinic uses the Dyslexia Portfolio to assess Phonological Dyslexia.
The Portfolio consists of a number of tests including;
- Naming Speed
- Reading Speed
- Phoneme Deletion

- Single Word Spelling test
- Recall of digits forwards/backwards
- Single Word Reading Test

The individual diagnostic assessment provides a profile of the client’s strengths and weaknesses that can be translated directly into an individual teaching plan, which will be provided to the client to enable appropriate accommodations and support provisions and provide practical advice and support for dyslexic students.
